As one of the key transport projects, the regional connecting route through Thai Nguyen is expected to open a new connection axis between the three northern midland provinces.
This project plays a role in connecting strategic infrastructure, while creating momentum for inter-regional economic development in the context of Thai Nguyen restructuring development space.
The Thai Nguyen - Bac Giang - Vinh Phuc regional connecting road project started construction in mid-2022, with the Thai Nguyen Provincial Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board as the investor.
The project has a total length of 42.55km, going from Pho Yen city (old) to Dai Tu district (old), with a total investment of VND3,800 billion.
According to Lao Dong Newspaper's reporter in mid-July 2025, after many years of implementation, the regional connecting road has been basically completed.
At the construction site, workers and machinery are mobilized and deployed in many teams to spread asphalt layer on the road surface, complete the connecting sections and install auxiliary infrastructure.
According to the contractor, the entire route currently has only about 2km of road surface and the bridge connections have not been completed.
As of the beginning of the third quarter of 2025, site clearance has reached 99.8%, roadbed has been constructed nearly 99%, asphalt concrete road surface has reached 87%, crushed stone foundation has been completed 89%.
Supporting items such as drainage systems, trees, underpasses, sidewalks... reached about 94% of the volume.
There are 11 bridges on the entire route, of which three large bridges play a vital role in connecting, including: the railway overpass, the National Highway 3 overpass and the Cong River overpass.
These items are currently over 83% complete, of which two bridges have exceeded the 90% construction mark.
However, there are still some shortcomings in terms of land in Thanh Cong commune, Phuc Thuan ward and Van Xuan ward (formerly under Pho Yen city).
In total, there are 20 households that have not yet handed over the site, of which some households are obstructing construction, one household has not yet completed handling the affected assets.
A hotel has not relocated the technical system, along with the situation of telecommunication cables running across the road surface that have not been fixed.

Mr. Tran Trong Cuong - Deputy Director of the Project Management Board - said that he has requested localities to focus on handling all problems related to the site to hand over to the investor.
At the same time, network operators are required to coordinate in burying the cable line in accordance with the design, ensuring aesthetics and safety during operation after exploitation.
Due to the impact of prolonged rain, the technical traffic opening schedule has been adjusted to before August 19 and the entire project will be completed on August 31, 2025.
When completed, the project will contribute to completing the strategic infrastructure network in the Northern midlands, while creating a new development corridor between the three provinces of Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang (old) and Vinh Phuc (old).
