On the afternoon of June 19, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province held a ceremony to announce Decision No. 1119, dated June 11, 2025 of the Prime Minister recognizing Chau Thanh district as meeting new rural standards (NTM) in 2024.
After more than 12 years of implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development, Chau Thanh has focused and strived for the entire political system, along with many good and creative ways of doing things. The program has promoted the strength of the whole society and the active and strong response of the people, achieving positive and quite comprehensive results.
The socio-economic infrastructure system is invested synchronously, 100% of commune roads and hamlets are asphalted and concreted with a total of 329 km of roads invested in construction, an increase of 63.8% compared to 2015, creating a smooth traffic network, connecting from the district center to each household.
The district has built concentrated sub-regions for agricultural production, thereby forming 3 production areas and developing 2 main products of the district, rice and Tac Cau pineapple. In which, the high-quality rice growing area with an area of 12,000 hectares, the pineapple, areca, and coconut growing area combined with community eco-tourism with an area of 1,740 hectares. The district also built a concentrated pig farming area in the direction of biotechnology and many effective agricultural models were replicated in the district. Average income per capita in rural areas reached over 73 million VND/person/year, an increase of 40 million VND compared to 2015, the rate of rural multidimensional poverty households decreased to 2.26%.
Vice Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Phong praised and highly appreciated the persistent efforts of the Party Committee, government, and organizations, along with the diligence and creativity of Chau Thanh people to bring the district to meet new rural standards, improve income and quality of life of the people.
The Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee emphasized that the country is entering a historic moment with the whole country entering a new era - the era of national growth; carrying out a revolution of innovation, streamlining the apparatus according to the model of a two-level local government. Although the district-level government no longer exists, the work of building new rural areas and the responsibility to improve the material and spiritual life of the people must continue to be better implemented. Focus and focus on calling for investment in Thanh Loc Industrial Parks, Tac Cau Fishing Port, Binh An Industrial Cluster and agricultural and aquatic processing plants. These are industries that create a breakthrough in local development.
Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Phong also suggested that local authorities focus on building civilized rural urban areas, investing in synchronous infrastructure systems, ensuring a clean and beautiful, livable rural environment; focusing on building and developing a smart agricultural economy; building key, highly competitive local products; linking and consuming products conveniently; focusing on developing eco-tourism and community culture.
