Recently, the People's Council of Kien Giang province passed a draft resolution on agreeing on the policy of arranging commune-level administrative units of Kien Giang province in 2025.
Specifically, after the arrangement, Kien Giang province has 48 commune-level administrative units, including 41 communes, 4 wards and 3 special zones.
Accordingly, Phu Quoc Special Zone was established on the basis of merging the entire natural area and population of 8 communes and wards. This is the administrative unit with the largest area of Kien Giang province after the arrangement with 575.29 km2.
The unit with the largest population after the reorganization is Rach Gia ward with 250,661 people.
Possessing the smallest area and population after the arrangement is Tien Hai commune with an area of 2.54 km2, population of 1,872 people.
