Before the information reflected by the press and public opinion about the investment project to build a project to preserve and reinforce the Hon Vong Phu relic (in Nhoi mountain, Dong Quang ward, Thanh Hoa province), on January 15, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee issued a document directing the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Department of Construction; Thanh Hoa Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Project Management Board; Dong Quang Ward People's Committee to inspect and handle the reflected contents.
The above project was approved by Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee on May 16, 2025, with a total investment of 17 billion VND from the provincial budget.
Out of a total of 17 billion VND, construction costs are the largest with more than 13.03 billion VND. Next are construction investment consulting costs of more than 2 billion VND; contingency costs for arising volume factors of more than 1.26 billion VND; project management costs of more than 400 million VND and other costs of more than 270 million VND.
As Lao Dong Newspaper previously reported, the national relic Hon Vong Phu is facing the risk of collapse at any time after being struck by lightning many times. The last time lightning hit the relic was on June 15, 2022, causing a large rock mass to landslide.
Faced with this situation, at the end of 2023, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province organized a scientific conference to assess the current situation and propose solutions to preserve Hon Vong Phu relic. At the conference, many experts and scientists consulted and contributed opinions to choose an optimal and feasible conservation plan.
By mid-2024, the old Thanh Hoa City People's Committee invested in a lightning protection system at Hon Vong Phu relic with a total cost of more than 800 million VND. Following that, in May 2025, the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee continued to approve the investment project to build a preservation and reinforcement project of Hon Vong Phu relic with a total investment of 17 billion VND.
After the project was approved, the construction unit urgently deployed relic reinforcement items. After many months of construction, the project is almost completed. However, images of the Hon Vong Phu relic after being reinforced and handled have caused much controversy on social networks.
