On January 17, information from Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee said that Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung has just signed a document directing the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Department of Construction; Thanh Hoa Civil and Industrial Construction Investment Project Management Board; Dong Quang Ward People's Committee to inspect and handle press and public opinion information related to Hon Vong Phu relic.
According to the document, in recent days, some press agencies and social networks have been interested in, researching and reflecting some contents related to the Project to preserve and reinforce the Hon Vong Phu relic belonging to the An Hoach Mountain Art and Scenic Relic Cluster (Nhoi Mountain).
After consideration, Vice Chairman of Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Dau Thanh Tung assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to preside over and coordinate with relevant departments and branches to promptly inspect and review the contents of information reflected by the press and public opinion.
Along with that, compare with the scientific dossiers of relics and project dossiers that have been approved by competent authorities to proactively clarify, speak out and provide official information to press agencies and public opinion; ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with legal regulations on cultural heritage conservation.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism summarizes and reports to the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee on the results of implementation in January 2026; and at the same time promptly proposes handling plans if issues beyond authority arise.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, the national relic Hon Vong Phu was at risk of collapsing at any time after being struck by lightning many times. The last time lightning hit it was on June 15, 2022, causing a large rock mass to landslide.
Faced with this situation, at the end of 2023, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thanh Hoa province organized a scientific conference to assess the current situation and propose solutions to preserve Hon Vong Phu relic. At the conference, many experts and scientists consulted opinions to choose optimal and feasible conservation solutions.
By mid-2024, Thanh Hoa City People's Committee invested in a lightning protection system at Hon Vong Phu relic with a total budget of more than 800 million VND.
Next, in May 2025, Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee approved the investment project to build a project to preserve and reinforce the Hon Vong Phu relic belonging to the An Hoach Mountain Art and Scenic Relic Cluster (Nhoi mountain, Dong Quang ward, Thanh Hoa province).
The total investment of the project is 17 billion VND from the provincial budget, the project implementation time is completed before December 31, 2025.
After the project was approved, the construction unit urgently deployed relic reinforcement items. After many months of construction, the project is almost completed. However, images of the Hon Vong Phu relic after being reinforced and handled have caused much controversy on social networks.
