On May 30, the Khanh Hoa Traffic Maintenance Management Board announced the results of the contractor selection for the consulting package to survey and prepare a pre-feasibility study report for the Cu Hin mountain tunnel construction project.
The consortium of the large bridge - tunnel design consulting Joint Stock Company and T27 Consulting Company won the bid to implement the consulting package within 60 days.
In the coming time, Khanh Hoa province will continue to complete the steps of surveying, assessing environmental impacts and calling for investment to soon implement this strategic transport infrastructure project.
The Cu Hin mountain tunnel project starts at the Song Lo area (Phuoc Dong commune, Nha Trang city) and ends at Cam Hai Dong commune (Cam Lam district).
This is considered a strategic route to replace the coastal Nguyen Tat Thanh section that is often affected by landslides and slopes, affecting traffic safety and inter-regional connectivity.
According to the Department of Construction of Khanh Hoa province - the unit inheriting the function from the Department of Transport - the project not only serves the development of infrastructure but also plays a particularly important role in national defense, security and socio-economic development, especially in the field of tourism and coastal services.
The tunnel is expected to pass through Cu Hin mountain, an area with complex terrain, a mountain top up to +880m high, a large slope, rugged terrain, and is located in a landscape area that needs to be preserved.
Three route design options have been proposed, with different tunnel lengths and route locations:
Option 1: The new section is 5,760m long, of which the tunnel is 4,280m long. Average investment cost, in accordance with planning, ensuring connectivity and safety of the project.
Option 2: Longest tunnel 4,880m), total length of route 5,640m, highest construction and maintenance cost.
Option 3: The shortest tunnel (3.760m), total length of the route is 5,980m, however, the route has many sections of excavated fields, affecting protective forests, at risk of landslides and not in accordance with the current planning direction.
After a comprehensive assessment, the Department of Construction proposed to choose option 1 to implement the project. The total estimated investment is from nearly VND 2,600 billion to VND 4,000 billion, depending on the construction scale (1 main tunnel + 1 escape tunnel, or 2 parallel tunnels).
