Gia Lai requests urgent handling of the situation of domestic wastewater flowing into Nhon Ly sea, to prevent recurrence of pollution affecting people and tourism activities.

Regarding the situation of domestic wastewater overflowing from manholes into roads, flowing into the sea, and emitting a prolonged stench in the Nhon Ly area (Quy Nhon Dong ward), the Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested local authorities to urgently implement environmental sanitation measures in this area.

In which, focus on inspecting and regularly dredging the rainwater drainage system and discharge culverts at the 5-seater septic tank cluster; proactively signing contracts with functional units to periodically pump and suck sludge at collection pits and septic tanks along the Ly Chanh and Ly Hoa village embankments. At the same time, strengthen microbial treatment, maintain continuous operation of the wastewater treatment system in Ly Luong neighborhood.

Quy Nhon Dong Ward People's Committee must study and immediately implement appropriate solutions to limit and move towards ending the situation of wastewater flowing directly into the beach in the northern and southern areas of Nhon Ly.

Do not let environmental pollution reoccur, affecting people's lives, tourism activities and the image of the locality," Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment is assigned to urge Quy Nhon Dong Ward People's Committee to implement tasks; promptly guide and remove professional difficulties in the implementation process.

On July 28, in an exchange with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Viet Quang - Chairman of Quy Nhon Dong Ward People's Committee - said that the locality has basically overcome the situation of wastewater from manholes overflowing onto the road surface and flowing into the sea.

We have installed and replaced small sections of pipes, and at the same time dredged sludge and cleared blocked manholes," Mr. Quang said.

According to Mr. Quang, this is only a short-term solution. In the long term, the locality will increase the operating capacity of the wastewater treatment plant to avoid recurrence of wastewater leaks through manholes due to the system being overloaded.

As Lao Dong newspaper has reported, for more than 1 month, people around the manhole areas on the coastal road in Quy Nhon Dong ward have had to live in pollution due to domestic wastewater overflowing onto the road surface and then flowing directly into the sea for a long time.

Records on July 9 show that many manholes continuously leak, wastewater overflows onto the road surface, emitting a strong stench, affecting the lives of people and tourists.

According to the Quy Nhon Dong ward government, this system was initially only designed to drain rainwater, but was later connected with additional domestic wastewater to the treatment station.

The increased amount of wastewater overloads the system, while the pipeline has a small cross-section and is silted up, leading to water overflowing backwards through manholes.

The entire route has 27 manholes, of which 6 manholes are leaking. Before the time of rectification, the locality had handled 2 locations, and 4 points continued to experience wastewater overflowing.
