Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just directed departments, branches and related units to urgently accelerate the progress of implementing a series of projects connecting with Long Thanh International Airport, including urban railway projects.
For Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Tham Luong section), the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Management Board to accelerate the construction progress, ensuring completion and commissioning in 2030.
This metro line was started on January 15, 2026, with a total length of nearly 11.3 km, of which more than 9 km is underground, the rest is the elevated section and access road to the depot.

When operating, the Ben Thanh - Tham Luong Metro line uses a 3-carriage train, with a maximum speed of 80 - 110 km/h, with a transport capacity of about 14,400 passengers/hour/direction.
For Metro Line No. 2 (Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem section), the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested relevant units to urgently complete the slow procedures such as: establishing an appraisal council; appraisal team to select contractors; selecting consultants to appraise feasibility study reports; determining the route plan and land fund for BT contract payment.
The city emphasized that if delays continue, the heads of units will be held responsible before the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
Ben Thanh - Thu Thiem Metro has been assigned by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment Joint Stock Company (a member of Truong Hai Group) to organize the preparation of a feasibility study report in the form of public-private partnership (PPP), construction - transfer (BT) contract.

This project has a length of about 5.58 km, including 6 underground stations, with a preliminary total investment of about 33,000 billion VND.
The route starts from the Ben Thanh area, follows Ham Nghi road, crosses the Saigon River to Thu Thiem, then runs along the Mai Chi Tho axis and ends at Thu Thiem station.
Ho Chi Minh City is speeding up procedures to start the project in April 2026, completing it before 2030.
The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line is identified as a strategic connecting axis between the center of Ho Chi Minh City and Long Thanh airport. The line is about 42 km long, designed with a double track of 1,435 mm gauge, with a maximum speed of 120 km/h.
The entire route is expected to have 20 stations, including 16 elevated stations and 4 underground stations, with a preliminary total investment of about 84,753 billion VND.
The Thu Thiem - Long Thanh route has also been assigned to Dai Quang Minh Real Estate Investment JSC to study and prepare a feasibility study report.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested departments and branches such as the Department of Finance, Department of Construction, Department of Agriculture and Environment, Department of Planning and Architecture... to closely coordinate to ensure synchronization in planning, technology, technical standards and the ability to connect the entire metro network.

The planned route runs along the corridor of the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and Ring Road 3, mainly through vacant land, convenient for site clearance.
Ho Chi Minh City sets a target to start construction of the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh route before June 30, 2026 and complete it in 2030.
When Metro Line 2 is extended from Tham Luong to Thu Thiem and connected to the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh urban railway line, Ho Chi Minh City will form a modern transport corridor, directly connecting Tan Son Nhat airport - Ho Chi Minh City center - Long Thanh airport.
Passengers from Tan Son Nhat airport can move to Ba Queo station to take Metro Line 2 to Ben Thanh station, continue to Thu Thiem station and connect the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh railway line to Long Thanh airport.
