Ba Ria - Vung Tau - Ba Ria Hospital said there is no conclusion yet on the case of a patient who died, whose family members previously said they had eaten banh mi in Vung Tau.

On November 29, Ba Ria Hospital (Ba Ria - Vung Tau province) informed about a case that was hospitalized for treatment with symptoms similar to food poisoning.

According to Ba Ria Hospital, patient A (name has been changed at the request of his family) was admitted to the hospital at 7:45 a.m. on November 28 due to abdominal pain, vomiting and severe diarrhea. Upon admission, his family said that he had eaten banh mi on the morning of November 27 and then developed the above symptoms. By 9:30 p.m. the same day, the patient's condition had worsened, so his family asked to go home.

Upon admission, the patient's abdomen was soft and painful around the navel, so the diagnosis was gastrointestinal infection, electrolyte disturbance; sinus tachycardia, incomplete P bundle branch block... Previously, the patient had had a biological aortic valve replaced. Therefore, the hospital administered fluids, pain relief, performed tests, and admitted him to the Department of Geriatric Cardiology (NTMLH).

At the NTMLH Department, patients were diagnosed with sepsis, severe digestive infections, acute kidney injury... so they were monitored and treated.

At around 4:10 p.m., the patient suddenly rolled his eyes, turned purple, had unmeasurable blood pressure, and had no pulse, so the hospital initiated intensive resuscitation. Later, the arterial blood gas was found to have severe metabolic acidosis, so the hospital recommended vasopressors to raise blood pressure, intravenous fluids to adjust acid-base balance, and emergency dialysis, but the family did not agree and asked to go home.

Speaking with Lao Dong, the patient's family representative also said that the patient did not survive, and it is not yet possible to determine exactly whether he ate banh mi and suffered food poisoning.

The leader of Ba Ria Hospital also said that it is not yet possible to conclude whether the incident is related to the suspected food poisoning case caused by banh mi in Vung Tau City; nor is there a conclusion on the cause of the patient's death. The hospital will hold a meeting of the professional council and make a conclusion.
