Quang Tri - The railway section damaged by floods in Quang Tri province will complete phase 1 of repairs to reopen the route.

At 3:00 p.m. on October 29, Mr. Le Hong Hai - Director of Binh Tri Thien Railway Joint Stock Company confirmed with Lao Dong Newspaper reporter that in the evening of the same day, the railway section through Quang Tri province will be opened.

According to Mr. Le Hong Hai, the unit has mobilized about 150 staff and machines to fix the railway damage after the flood.

The repair is divided into 2 phases. When phase 1 is completed, the traffic will be open, and phase 2 will gradually upgrade the level.

“I am at the scene to direct the repair work. Phase 1 of the repair work will be completed this evening,” said Mr. Le Hong Hai.

Previously, due to the impact of storm Tra Mi (storm No. 6), from the afternoon of October 27, the water level on the Sa Lung River, where the railway passes, rose. In Vinh Long commune (Vinh Linh district, Quang Tri province), the rising water caused severe flooding in the basin on both sides of the river. By the evening of October 27, the water flooded the railway and affected the railway infrastructure, disrupting train operations.

After the water receded, it was noted that stations 1, 3 and N2, N4 were flooded, and the upper floors were damaged.

In particular, from Sa Lung station to the South, the section from Km 587 +300 to Km 589 was flooded and caused erosion and drifting of the rock foundation in many sections. The eroded roadbed caused the railway to drift to the left of the line for a length of about 350m, the largest point drifting was 3.9m from the center of the old track.

Due to the above incident, train passengers were transferred from Dong Hoi station (Quang Binh) to Dong Ha station (Quang Tri) and vice versa to continue their journey.
