On September 26, at the 3rd session (special session), the An Giang Provincial People's Council approved a draft resolution on the Decision on policy of converting forest use to other purposes to implement the project of expanding the People's Cemetery of Phu Quoc city (now Phu Quoc special area).
The Phu Quoc City People's Cemetery Expansion Project is invested by the Phu Quoc Area Investment and Construction Project Management Board, with a total implementation area of over 5.6 hectares.
The area of land with forest planning origin is more than 5.6 hectares, of which the area with forest is more than 4.4 hectares and the area without forest is more than 1.2 hectares.
The proposed area for changing the purpose of forest use is more than 4.4 hectares at lot 1, lot 3, compartment 16, Sub-zone 77 in Suoi May quarter, Phu Quoc special zone, An Giang province (currently, this location is no longer planned for forestry purposes).
According to the Provincial People's Committee, this investment project is extremely necessary because Phu Quoc City People's Cemetery (now Phu Quoc Special Area, An Giang Province) has almost completely used up the land for burial, no longer meeting the increasing burial needs of local people. This is also the only cemetery in the area.
In the context of not being able to arrange other suitable locations, converting forest land use purposes to implement projects becomes an urgent and necessary solution to promptly solve practical needs.
