Con Dao urgently deploys waste treatment and environmental protection measures

THÀNH AN |

HCMC - The waste incinerator in Con Dao special area is completing stages to officially operate, treating all waste remaining within 11 months.

On the afternoon of July 25, the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone (HCMC) said that it had assigned the Management Board of Construction Investment and Land Fund Development Projects to sign a contract with Kim Truong Phat Investment Joint Stock Company - a partner selected to treat waste in the Bai Nhat area.

For many years, the large amount of waste remaining in Bai Nhat area, Con Dao special area is a difficult environmental problem here. The amount of waste is increasing with the development of population and tourism, but the ability to treat waste cannot keep up.

Recently, on average, Con Dao generates 12-15 tons of domestic waste per day, but there is no real waste treatment plant. Therefore, waste is collected, compacted and piled up outdoors in the temporary concentration area without treatment, leading to a strong smell, polluting the surrounding environment...

This enterprise is completing the stages to officially put the waste incineration plant into operation by the end of July 2025 according to the committed content. Therefore, the amount of waste remaining in Bai Nhat will be resolved within 11 months from the official operation of the plant.

In parallel with the handling of the remaining amount of waste, the People's Committee of Con Dao Special Zone is also completing procedures for land acquisition to hand over and implement the Con Dao Waste Treatment Plant project, on an area of 1.92 hectares, with a capacity of about 36 tons/day... At the same time, it is expected to start the project of the Wastewater collection and treatment system of Con Dao central area phase 2 in August 2025, to be completed in 2026.
