Con Son is located in area 17, Binh Thuy ward, Can Tho city, about 74 hectares wide, located in the middle of Hau river. This place has nearly 50 households with nearly 280 people living there and is famous for community tourism, surrounded by nearly 5 km of land, 3-5 m wide, and 2 m higher.

However, the dike in Con Son area (Binh Thuy ward, Can Tho city) suddenly broke, causing the Hau River to flood quickly, causing deep flooding in many houses, fruit gardens and aquaculture ponds.
Mr. Mai Hong Su - Secretary and Head of Area 17 (Binh Thuy Ward) said that the incident occurred at around 4am. The broken dike section is 5m wide and 10m long, the water overflows very quickly, people cannot react.
According to initial statistics, 8 houses and 5 hectares of fruit and flower gardens were deeply flooded. The damage to aquaculture ponds is also very large, and it is likely that the entire body has flooded into the river.

Ms. Tran Thi Goi (71 years old, Con Son resident) was still shocked and shared that she had never seen such a deep flood. According to Ms. Giap, her family has more than 4,000 square meters, grows nearly 150 coconut trees and has a fish pond. Now the house is flooded to the stomach, all the fertilizer is damaged, the fish are gone. I just hope the government will soon reinforce the dike so that people can work with peace of mind.

The house was flooded to the knees and busy moving her belongings. Ms. Nguyen Thi Dung said that the water was flooding in too quickly, so she and her daughter could not move anything. The rice box with more than 70kg of reserves was also flooded, considered a total loss.
According to Mr. Mai Hong Su, the initial cause was determined to be due to high tides combined with prolonged heavy rain, causing the Hau River water level to rise, creating pressure on weak dykes, leading to rupture. The authorities mobilized militia, police and people to build sandbags, place bamboo sticks, temporarily reinforce the broken dike section, and at the same time supported the relocation of assets and counted the damage to affected households.

According to the Report of the Irrigation Department (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City), as of October 27, 2025, the city has recorded 4 floods and high tides. From the beginning of the year to the end of October 2025, natural disasters of all kinds have affected 299 households, with a total estimated damage of about 32.9 billion VND; 111 riverbank landslides alone have caused damage of nearly 23 billion VND.
Also according to the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station, the water level on the morning of November 7 remained high, peaking at 2.33m (0.33m above alert level III) at 4:30 am.
Flooding in low-lying areas, traffic routes along rivers and canals continues to occur, affecting people's daily life and travel. In particular, in recent days, high tides have caused overflow through Ninh Kieu Park, flooding urban areas near the park.
