At the Conference to review the work of preventing, combating and overcoming the consequences of storm No. 3 and the floods after the storm that just took place, authorized by the President, Deputy Minister of Public Security Le Van Tuyen - Head of Climate Change Response, Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense Ministry of Public Security - awarded the Third Class Fatherland Protection Medal to Yen Bai Provincial Police for their outstanding achievements in rescuing State assets, people and people's assets during storm No. 3, contributing to the cause of building socialism and defending the Fatherland.
The impact of storm No. 3 (Yagi) in Yen Bai province caused heavy damage to people's lives and property, many roads were eroded, and many localities were flooded and isolated.
Yen Bai Provincial Police mobilized 2,402 officers and soldiers, 4,067 people from the force participating in protecting security and order at the grassroots level, 400 vehicles, thousands of life buoys of all kinds to carry out the task; coordinated to bring more than 1,000 people trapped in flooded areas to safety; coordinated with the Army and other forces to organize the evacuation of 21,368 thousand households and assets in areas affected by floods and landslides.
During the storm, more than 700 families and relatives of officers and soldiers suffered human and property losses and could not be moved in time because officers and soldiers were focusing on supporting and rescuing people from flooded areas. Typical examples include Lieutenant Colonel Hoang Manh Lam - Deputy Chief of Nguyen Phuc Ward Police, Yen Bai City - whose mother and younger brother died due to a landslide while he and his teammates rushed into the flood-hit area to rescue people; Private Hoang Trong Diep - a soldier of the Provincial Police Detention Center - while performing the task of ensuring the safety of prisoners, a landslide in Minh Chuan Commune, Luc Yen District killed 5 people in his family; or Major Tran Dong - Chief of Van Hoi Commune Police (Tran Yen) died while on duty during the storm and flood.
