In mid-March, the area on National Highway 4D section passing through Sa Pa was submerged in thick fog. The temperature in the highlands dropped low, cold winds rushed in, making outdoor construction more difficult than usual.
However, at the traffic infrastructure repair project site near Thac Bac tourist area, workers are still working urgently.
The sound of excavators and welding machines blended with the flow of people passing by, and the sound of traffic echoed in the mountains and forests. Everyone took advantage of each favorable weather period to speed up progress.
The project to repair and ensure traffic safety of Thac Bac bridge and handle flooding on National Highway 4D has a total investment of more than 26 billion VND invested by the Lao Cai Road Maintenance Management Board. The project will be implemented in the period 2025-2026.
This is a vital traffic route connecting from Lao Cai to Sa Pa and to Lai Chau, with a large volume of vehicles every day, especially during the tourist season.
The project is jointly constructed by Lao Cai Construction and Inspection Joint Stock Company and Lao Cai Road Joint Stock Company.
At the construction site, the construction teams are divided into many groups to simultaneously deploy bridge construction, roadbed treatment and road surface renovation.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Mai Hong Quan - Project Commander - said that up to this point, the project has reached about 50% of the volume value. Important items are being urgently implemented to ensure overall progress.
The weather in the highlands is often foggy and drizzly, so construction encounters many difficulties. However, when the weather is favorable, we organize overtime, supplement manpower and equipment to speed up progress," Mr. Quan shared.
According to the plan, if favorable weather conditions and problems are resolved promptly, the project is expected to be completed and put into use by the end of May 2026.
The project commander also hopes that relevant agencies will continue to support the removal of site obstacles and create favorable conditions for the construction unit to implement the project on schedule.
Upgrading and repairing traffic infrastructure in the Thac Bac bridge area is considered very necessary. In particular, the road leading to Thac Bac tourist area is a place with many tourists stopping to visit and take photos.
If traffic infrastructure is not improved in time, the risk of traffic unsafety is very likely to occur, especially during the peak tourist season and floods.
When completed, the project will not only help improve the operational efficiency of National Highway 4D but also contribute to strengthening traffic safety for people and tourists.
At the same time, convenient transport infrastructure also creates momentum to promote tourism and socio-economic development of Sa Pa area and neighboring localities.
