The landslide section of more than 40m long on the riverside road of Phuoc Ly Nhi hamlet, Quoi Thien commune occurred in mid-2024. Although it is being repaired, there was an incident while the embankment was leaning, making people even more worried.
As a household whose house is close to the landslide, Mr. Bay Tam said: In mid-June 2025, he discovered that the cement embankment under construction was leaning towards the river. Worried about the safety of his house and the family's land that he has been attached to for many years, he proactively reported it to the local government.
"Seeing the embankment being skewed and tilted clearly, the construction unit continued to work until early July. When I reported it again, the authorities allowed me to check. If I continue to do it on this side, I don't know if my land will be kept in the future," Mr. Tam worried.

Mr. Phan Thanh Minh - Head of Phuoc Ly Nhi Hamlet - also said that the incident made people even more worried. This is a vital route, affecting dozens of households. People have been going around for nearly 5km for many months.
"The embankment slope incident has occurred again, if not handled soon, it will be unsafe and cause additional damage to time and money," Mr. Minh expressed.
The incident occurred when the project had not been completed, making people living along the river even more insecure. Everyone hopes that the place they are attached to will soon be firmly protected so that they can work and live with peace of mind.
According to Mr. Le Van Tham - Former Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Vung Liem district - before the merger of administrative units, the project had been approved with a budget of more than 1.2 billion VND and started construction in early 2025.
The original plan was to complete before April 30. However, due to bidding problems and subsequent incidents of embankment tilts during construction, the project had to be temporarily suspended to re-evaluate the current status.
"We have coordinated with consulting and monitoring units to find technical solutions to handle the tilted embankment, ensuring safety for the project and the people," said Mr. Tham.

After the merger, the project will be managed by Quoi Thien commune. Mr. Nguyen Van Hai - Vice Chairman of Quoi Thien Commune People's Committee - confirmed that the local government is coordinating with the construction unit to handle the problem of leaning the embankment by closing a rows of coconut trees inside the cement foundation to stabilize the project.
"Currently, the project is continuing to be implemented step by step. If the weather is favorable and there are no new incidents, it is expected to be completed in July 2025, said Mr. Hai.
The local government also said that it will strengthen site inspections to ensure construction quality, avoiding risks for people living near the edge of landslides.
