On the afternoon of February 5, 2026, Hanoi City Police solemnly organized the 80th Anniversary of the Traditional Day of the Traffic Police Force (February 21, 1946 – February 21, 2026) and received the Second-class Fatherland Protection Medal - a noble award recognizing the persistent contributions to the cause of ensuring traffic order and safety and maintaining peace for the people.
The ceremony was chaired by Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung - Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Director of Hanoi City Police. Attending were Major General Do Thanh Binh - Director of the Traffic Police Department (Ministry of Public Security); Vice Chairman of Hanoi City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen; Deputy Directors of the City Police and representatives of departments, branches and many generations of officers and soldiers of the Capital Traffic Police.
80 years of steadfastly maintaining the traffic route of the Capital
At the ceremony, Major General Nguyen Hong Ky - Deputy Director of Hanoi City Police spoke, reviewing the 80-year journey of construction, combat and growth of the Capital Traffic Police force.
Born in the early days of the young revolutionary government, the Hanoi Traffic Police force always accompanied the development of the country. Under the direct leadership and direction of the Party Committee and the Board of Directors of the Hanoi City Police; professional guidance of the Traffic Police Department and coordination of levels and sectors, generations of officers and soldiers have overcome difficulties and steadfastly pursued the goal of ensuring smooth and safe traffic.
During the resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism, the force both organized traffic regulation and directly participated in combat, 4 heroic martyrs sacrificed themselves. In peacetime, especially after more than 40 years of renovation, many officers and soldiers continued to fall or suffer injuries while on duty, leaving irreparable losses.
Major General Nguyen Hong Ky emphasized that in recent years, the Capital Traffic Police have proactively advised on many fundamental solutions to reduce accidents and curb congestion; drastically deployed specialized topics to handle violations of alcohol concentration, speed, overloaded vehicles, and transport business vehicles...
At the same time, the traffic police force is also leading in applying science and technology, building a smart traffic command center, gradually shifting from "direct handling" to "modern traffic management".


Recognizing those contributions, the Party and State have awarded the Hanoi Police Traffic Police force many noble awards: 4 First-class Military Exploit Orders, 5 Third-class Military Exploit Orders, 2 Second-class Labor Orders; for many consecutive years, they have been awarded Emulation Flags by the Government, the Ministry of Public Security, and the Hanoi People's Committee.
In particular, in September 2014, the Traffic Police Department - Hanoi Police was honored to be awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces during the anti-American resistance war for national salvation.
Towards a modern force, taking people's satisfaction as a measure
Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen praised the silent efforts and contributions of the traffic police force over the past 8 decades.
He emphasized that in the context of Hanoi facing great pressure on population, vehicles and infrastructure, the traffic police force has proactively and creatively implemented many synchronous solutions, making an important contribution to ensuring traffic order and safety, effectively serving the socio-economic development tasks of the city.
Notably, the force has coordinated to absolutely protect the safety of nearly 3,000 major political, diplomatic, and cultural events in the area, including particularly important events of the country, thereby continuing to affirm the image of a security, safe, friendly and hospitable Capital.
Entering 2026 - the first year of implementing the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress, city leaders proposed that Hanoi Police in general and the Traffic Police force in particular continue to thoroughly grasp the action motto: "Discipline, professionalism - Breakthrough, creativity - Efficiency, sustainability";
Focus on building a strong force; fundamentally solving traffic congestion "bottleneck points" associated with urban order; promoting traffic law education...

On behalf of officers and soldiers, Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia - Head of the Traffic Police Department, Hanoi City Police affirmed that the profound directions of city leaders and the Board of Directors of the City Police are a work order, a guiding principle for all activities of the Traffic Police force in the coming time.
The force determines that solving congestion and preventing traffic accidents is the top political task; pioneering the application of science and technology, strongly shifting from manual to digital, from passive to proactive, towards building the force "most disciplined - most loyal - closest to the people".


On this occasion, the President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam awarded the Second-class Fatherland Protection Order to the Traffic Police Department - Hanoi City Police; and the Third-class Fatherland Protection Order to Colonel Tran Dinh Nghia - Head of Hanoi Traffic Police Department.
The Minister of Public Security also awarded Certificates of Merit to 517 individuals with outstanding achievements in ensuring security and order in the Capital.
The anniversary ceremony closed in a solemn atmosphere, becoming a meaningful milestone, adding motivation for the Capital Traffic Police force to continue to promote heroic tradition, bravery and wisdom on the journey for a civilized, safe, and sustainable development Capital.
