Ban Pass is an area with steep mountainous terrain, many winding road sections, out of sight.
During the National Day holiday, the traffic volume is expected to increase when people move to highland areas for tourism and family visits.
According to the Traffic Police Department of Lao Cai Provincial Police, during the holidays, the force is arranged to be 100% on duty, performing tasks 24/24 hours.
Along with patrolling, controlling and handling violations, officers and soldiers proactively propagate and guide people to comply with traffic safety regulations, especially when passing through steep mountain passes.
On provincial road 156B, a task force of Road Traffic Police Team No. 1 patrols and controls in an area with many curved sections and steep passes.
The road from Kim Thanh border gate to Y Ty is nearly 60km long, including many steep passes, continuous curves and limited visibility.
During the holidays, the number of tourists going to Y Ty increased, making the pressure to ensure traffic safety on the route also greater.
According to Captain Nguyen Minh Thang, Head of the Task Force, at this time, the number of vehicles and tourists flocking to Y Ty has increased sharply. Many people who come to the highlands for the first time, after a long journey, may not be familiar with the mountain passes, many continuous curves.
Therefore, instead of only handling violations when they occur, the traffic police force determines that propaganda and prevention are important tasks.
Not only curved points, out of sight, the traffic police force also identified locations where tourists often stop their cars on the side of the road to admire the scenery, take photos, and check-in.
These are potential unsafe spots if vehicles stop and park improperly.
Also during the holidays, Lao Cai traffic police strengthened control on key routes towards Sa Pa and Bac Ha.
On National Highway 4D, Road Traffic Police Team No. 1 arranged two working groups to be on duty 24/24 hours on National Highway 4D and Provincial Road 155 - the road from Sa Pa down.
Task forces are deployed at key locations at risk of traffic accidents. Along with patrols and inspections, functional forces proactively divert traffic and remind drivers of dangerous routes before going down the pass.
For Sa Pa National Tourist Area, the Traffic Police Department of Lao Cai Provincial Police in coordination with Sa Pa Ward Police organized patrols, traffic diversion, and traffic regulation in key areas to reduce congestion.
Forces are strengthened in the central area, traffic junctions, entertainment, sightseeing, tourism spots and places with large concentrations of people and vehicles.
The deployment of forces at hotspots not only aims to limit congestion but also to promptly handle arising situations and guide vehicles to move safely.
Meanwhile, at Km8+600 National Highway 4E, Bac Ha commune, along with propaganda, the task force of Road Traffic Police Team No. 2 focused on handling violations that directly lead to accidents such as speeding and alcohol concentration.
On August 31st alone, Road Traffic Police Team No. 2 handled 8 cases of speeding on the route, contributing to preventing accidents and ensuring safety for people and tourists on the Bac Ha route during the National Day holiday on September 2nd.
