On June 3, the Traffic Police Department (CSGT) of Ho Chi Minh City Police (PC08) said that after nearly a month of implementing the 45-day and night peak period "Overall review, statistics, detection, struggle, cleaning up the area - Building a platform to serve the transformation of complex areas in terms of security and order, towards the goal of building Ho Chi Minh City without drugs by 2030", the traffic order and safety situation in the city continues to have many positive changes.
According to the Traffic Police Department, the unit has proactively developed plans, synchronously deployed professional measures, mobilized maximum forces, vehicles and equipment to ensure traffic order and safety, and at the same time prevent, detect and fight against crimes and violations of the law on traffic routes.
From May 1 to May 28, 2026, traffic accidents in Ho Chi Minh City decreased by 35 cases compared to the same period last year. According to the assessment of functional forces, this result was achieved in the context that traffic volume and demand for passenger and cargo transportation in the city are still high.
In patrol and control work, the traffic police force handled more than 76,000 cases of violations of road traffic safety and order; revoked the right to use driver's licenses in more than 4,200 cases and deducted points from driver's licenses in more than 8,100 cases.
Functional forces have detected and handled more than 21,900 cases of alcohol concentration violations, 107 cases of vehicle drivers having drugs in their bodies and more than 100 cases of violations of vehicle load regulations.
In the field of waterway traffic, Ho Chi Minh City traffic police have handled more than 1,300 cases of traffic safety violations.
In parallel with ensuring traffic order and safety, the traffic police force also strengthens the fight against crimes and law violations on traffic routes.
Through patrol and control work, functional forces have discovered 22 cases related to security and order, including acts of obstructing people on duty, disturbing public order, property theft, gambling, transporting vehicles of unknown origin, transporting wild animals, illegally possessing drugs and other illegal acts. The cases have been handed over to the local police for further investigation and handling according to regulations.
Implementing the goal of building a drug-free Ho Chi Minh City by 2030, the Traffic Police Department has directed units to strengthen inspections and detect drivers of vehicles using illegal drugs. In addition to 107 cases of violations on roads, functional forces also discovered 10 more cases of crew members on waterway vehicles testing positive for drugs.
According to the Traffic Police Department, in the coming time, the unit will continue to drastically implement the tasks of the peak period; strengthen patrols, inspections, and strictly handle violations that are direct causes of traffic accidents.
