On the morning of May 7, the People's Committee of Son Tra District (Da Nang) forced the demolition of 7 food stalls and souvenirs along the coast on Vo Nguyen Giap Street, Phuoc My Ward. The authorities blocked off the area early and dispatched machinery to the scene.
According to Mr. Huynh Van Hung, Vice Chairman of Son Tra District People's Committee, the district has repeatedly had dialogues and sent documents responding to the opinions of 7 business households, but has not received cooperation. This morning (May 7), all business households were absent, their assets had been relocated before. The site after enforcement will be handed over to the Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches to advise on public auctions, serving business according to the plan.
Previously, in 2012, the People's Committee of Da Nang City issued a pilot policy for these stalls to diversify tourism services. Businesses have committed to voluntarily dismantling within 30 days of receiving a notice of termination of the pilot.
By May 2024, the People's Committee of Da Nang City requested to terminate the pilot operation to organize a site auction for lease. The Management Board of Son Tra Peninsula and Da Nang tourist beaches has worked and notified businesses, requesting self-dismantling before September 30, 2024. However, Phuoc My Ward People's Committee has mobilized and had dialogues twice (late 2024 and January 3), but only 3 households complied. The remaining 7 households were fined and forced to record administrative violations. Vo Nguyen Giap Street is famous for a series of luxury hotels and villas, a destination that attracts a large number of tourists.
