Dak Nong owns the largest bauxite reserves in the country, more than 1.7 billion tons, and has 179,597 hectares planned for exploration and exploitation, accounting for 27% of the province's natural area.
Currently, there is only Nhan Co Alumina Factory exploiting and processing bauxite. The factory's capacity reaches 650,000 tons of alumina/year.
Meanwhile, according to the Central Government's plan, by 2030, the capacity of Nhan Co Alumina Plant will be increased to about 2 million tons/year. Four new alumina production projects will be invested in Dak Nong. Each plant will have a minimum capacity of 1 million tons of alumina/year or more.
Mr. Ho Van Muoi - Chairman of Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee said that according to calculations by functional agencies, if there is only 1 Nhan Co Alumina Factory, it will take 715 years to exploit all the bauxite.
If there are 4 more factories according to the Central planning, it will take 300 years to exploit all the bauxite. Thus, Dak Nong is facing a great opportunity to "take off" with the strong support of bauxite resources.
The Chairman of the Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee added that many large domestic corporations and enterprises have submitted documents to invest in bauxite mining and processing. The total registered capital is about 8 billion USD.
In 2025, the province strives to complete investment procedures to implement at least 2 bauxite factory projects. This is one of the key tasks, the Provincial Chairman requested relevant units to proactively deploy and coordinate implementation.
Bauxite factories invested in Dak Nong with modern equipment systems. Not only exploiting bauxite but also forming a deep processing chain for the alumina and aluminum smelting industry.
This is one of the three pillars of the local economy. Thereby, realizing the goal of Dak Nong striving to become the largest metallurgical center in the country by 2030.
