On April 21, Hanoi City Police said they are coordinating with relevant agencies to search for the motorbike driver who caused the accident, which killed a female environmental worker and then fled.
At about 0:30 on April 21, Ms. L.H.Y (born in 1972, residing in Lang Thuong ward, Dong Da district) is an employee of Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Limited Company, Dong Da Branch (Urenco 4) on the task of maintaining environmental sanitation in Hateco Huynh Thuc Khang building area when suddenly being crashed by motorbikes. After causing the accident, the driver fled the scene. Although the people and the functional forces were taken to the emergency hospital, Ms. Y did not survive. Currently, the authorities are urgently investigating and searching the person causing the accident, and supporting the female family's family in distress. This is not a rare accident.
Previously, last year in An Giang, Mr. Tran Chi Hung, an environmental sanitation worker in Binh Thoi 3 Hamlet, Binh Khanh Ward, was hit by a car while collecting garbage, causing him to be thrown onto the sidewalk and die. Upon hearing the news, the driver turned himself in and confessed to his actions. Test results showed that the driver had alcohol concentration in his blood.
Although there are no official statistics on the number of environmental sanitation workers who have traffic accidents every year, through these incidents, it can be seen that this issue needs special attention. To protect the occupational safety and hygiene force, in addition to fully preparing safety equipment such as lights, protective hats, tankers, gloves and masks, another important factor is needed - the awareness of traffic participants. Driving while intoxicated or speeding and recklessly overtaking is the main cause of many tragic accidents.
Therefore, everyone participating in traffic needs to raise awareness, especially after drinking alcohol, to minimize the risk of causing accidents for workers on duty to protect the living environment for the community.
In addition, the authorities also need to have strict sanctions for acts that cause accidents for cleaning workers, and at the same time implement measures to protect them from unjust assaults and beatings. The government needs to issue timely support policies for workers in work-related accidents, while providing signs and equipping specialized garbage trucks on dangerous routes.
In the darkness of the city, cleaning workers are still quietly working to bring beauty to the landscape of the streets. However, they also need a safe working environment, protecting their lives and health.
To make cleaning workers feel secure in their profession, each person in society needs to join hands to protect environmental hygiene and ensure traffic safety, contributing to building a civilized and safe community.
