While tens of millions of tons of coal/year are being exploited by tens of thousands of miners, new production and exploitation projects are continuously being supplemented by the Vietnam National Coal - Mineral Industries Group (TKV) to connect the source of "black gold" to the country.

Following a number of completed projects and projects in the process of implementation, on August 19, 2025, TKV simultaneously held a groundbreaking ceremony for 4 major projects related to coal mining and production, with a total investment of about 5,700 billion VND.

These are the projects: Mining the underground part of the Ha Rang mine expansion (Hon Gai Coal Company), capacity of 900,000 tons/year, total investment of about 1,413 billion VND; Exploitation of the Coc Sau - Deo Nai mine cluster, capacity of 2.7 million tons/year, total investment of about 2,074 billion VND; Exploitation of the underground part of Tan Yen - Dong Trang Bach mine, capacity of 0.45 million tons/year, total investment of about 1,111 billion VND; Nam Mau coal screening plant, capacity of 2.5 million tons/year, total investment of about 1,019 billion VND.

The Ha Rang mine expansion tunnel exploitation project is a continuation of the old Ha Rang mine, which has now completed coal mining at +50 ÷ -100m, located in Cao Xanh ward and Quang Hanh ward, Quang Ninh province.

Accordingly, Hon Gai Coal Company continues to invest in coal mining at a depth of - 50 ÷ -250m, with an industrial reserve of 8.93 million tons of clean coal; the volume of raw coal converted is about 11.85 million tons.

With the design, the mine is 17 years old, including 4 years of basic construction, with a capacity of 900,000 tons/year. The volume of underground mine roads built deep underground by this mine project is more than 11.6km. The first market is expected to be put into operation around the first quarter of 2028.

The tunnel exploitation project in Tan Yen - Dong Trang Bach mine area of Uong Bi Coal Company is being implemented in Hoang Que ward, Quang Ninh province, on an area of 3.52km2. The permitted mineral reserve included in the exploitation design is 13.001 million tons, the exploitation reserve is 7.177 million tons. The designed capacity of this mine is 450,000 tons of raw coal/year. The first market is expected to be put into operation in the first quarter of 2028.

Meanwhile, the only open-pit coal mining project in this period is the Coc Sau - Deo Nai Mining Cluster Project with a maximum designed capacity of 2.7 million tons of raw coal/year.

The project aims to improve exploitation efficiency, optimize coal resources, and ensure safety during production, after 2 units: Coal Selection Joint Stock Company and Deo Nai Coal Selection Joint Stock Company, have 2 mines located next to each other, merging into Deo Nai - Coal Selection Joint Stock Company.

In the coming time, it is expected that there will be a number of new coal mining projects to be launched, including the Project of Exploiting below -220 Binh Minh mine, also of Hon Gai Coal Company, which started construction in November 2023.

This project has a total investment of VND 1,100 billion, raw coal reserves of over 9 million tons, capacity of 500,000 tons/year, exploited for 21 years, exploitation level from -220 to -350m above sea level. It is expected that the first tons of coal will be released in the first quarter of 2026.
