Quang Tri - Functional agencies are conducting surveys of areas suspected of having martyrs' remains in Con Tien, but have not yet found them.

On September 8, information from the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Quang Tri province said that functional forces are continuing to verify and cordon off locations suspected of having martyrs' remains in the Con Tien area, Con Tien commune.

Previously, based on information provided by witnesses, Division 968, Military Region 4 identified a number of areas suspected of having martyrs' remains.

In early August 2026, functional forces used ground-penetrating radar to survey 8 suspicious areas. Initial results recorded some areas showing signs of disturbances underground.

This is considered an important basis for functional forces to continue to compare with historical documents and the accounts of witnesses, thereby organizing surveys and explorations to accurately identify search locations.

According to historical documents, Con Tien is the area where many fierce battles took place in the resistance war against the US, including the battle on May 8, 1967. According to information from witnesses, after the battles, many martyrs were buried in the Con Tien base area.

From 1988 to 2007, functional forces searched and repatriated about 93 sets of martyrs' remains in this area. However, there is still information about cases that have not been found.

To clarify suspicious areas, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Quang Tri province will organize a workshop to verify and conclude information about martyrs and martyrs' graves in Con Tien.

At the workshop, historical documents, witness information and field survey results, including ground-penetrating radar results in 8 suspected areas, will be compared and verified to further narrow the search scope.

The Provincial Steering Committee also called on veterans, witnesses who fought, worked, and lived in the Con Tien area, along with organizations and individuals with information about the burial location of martyrs to continue to provide information, contributing to the search and repatriation work.
