According to a report by the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Tuyen Quang province, the poverty rate in the province decreased from 14.03% at the beginning of 2024 to 10.24%, exceeding 125.9% of the set plan.
In particular, the poverty rate of ethnic minority households decreased from 22.03% to 14.76%, far exceeding the target of a reduction of 4% or more. These results demonstrate the outstanding efforts of the entire political system and the consensus of the people.
In addition, the poverty rate in poor districts also decreased sharply, from 36.91% to 30.01%. This shows the effectiveness of implementing poverty reduction projects focusing on the most difficult areas.
To achieve the above results, in an interview with Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Nguyen Viet Hung - Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Tuyen Quang province said that the management and implementation of the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction was carried out systematically from the provincial to grassroots levels.
Steering Committees at all levels have been strengthened and actively operated, responsible for directing, guiding and supervising the implementation of tasks. Close coordination between departments, branches and localities has contributed to removing difficulties and improving the effectiveness of program implementation.
"In particular, communication work has been focused on with many diverse forms, from conferences, training to hanging banners and propaganda in the press. Messages about poverty reduction have spread, helping to raise people's awareness and arousing their will to self-reliantly rise out of poverty," said Mr. Hung.
Besides, in 2024, the total state budget capital allocated to the National Target Program on Sustainable Poverty Reduction in Tuyen Quang is 323,078 million VND, of which the central budget capital accounts for the majority.
The province has allocated and used this capital flexibly, focusing on highly effective projects such as infrastructure construction, production support, nutrition improvement and vocational education development.
One of the notable milestones is the housing support project for poor and near-poor households. By the end of 2024, the province had completed the construction and repair of 627 houses, reaching 100% of the annual plan, helping hundreds of families stabilize their lives and settle down.
The province has implemented 67 production development projects, supporting more than 1,800 households, including poor, near-poor and newly escaped-poverty households. These projects not only create jobs but also help people increase their income through production models suitable to local conditions. Moreover, the integration of technical assistance and technology transfer has created a premise for people to develop sustainably.
According to the leader of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Tuyen Quang, to continue to maintain and promote the achievements, Tuyen Quang will strengthen propaganda work to arouse the spirit of self-reliance and responsibility of the people in poverty reduction.
Accelerate capital disbursement and effectively integrate support resources. Focus on training and capacity building for staff working on poverty reduction, especially at the grassroots level. Strengthen inspection and supervision to ensure transparency and efficiency in project implementation.
