Raising awareness of poverty alleviation for people
Gia Nghia City has a natural area of over 284km2, with 8 commune-level administrative units, 62 villages, hamlets, and residential groups. The city's population is 20,592 households, 75,016 people.
According to the assessment of Gia Nghia City People's Committee, the locality has many advantages for socio-economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
However, there are also many difficulties and problems such as overlapping planning, compensation and clearance, affecting the lives of a part of the population, especially poor households.
Some poor households are constantly sick, have no land for production, and have low educational levels... Poor households' ability to calculate expenses, do business, and apply scientific and technological advances to serve production and create products is still very limited.
Implementing Resolution (No. 13-NQ/TU) dated December 16, 2021 of Dak Nong Provincial Party Committee on sustainable poverty reduction for the period 2021-2025, with a vision to 2030, Gia Nghia city has promoted propaganda work to raise awareness among the poor.
Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khiem - Head of the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Gia Nghia city shared: "The grassroots cadres encourage the poor to rise up by their own will and determination, without waiting or relying entirely on the help of the State. The unit also integrates national target programs on loan support, giving houses, cows, breeding animals, vocational training, and guiding people in economic activities".
Officials accompany people to escape poverty
From 2021 to present, Gia Nghia city has organized many training courses to improve professional skills in reviewing poor and near-poor households and improving capacity for "poverty reduction" officers in wards and communes.
According to Mr. Khiem, in poverty reduction work, Gia Nghia city has a policy of "giving fishing rods, not fish". When implementing poverty reduction work, officials and departments of Gia Nghia city are always there for and put themselves in the situation of the poor and those with less fortunate fates.
From there, help them with all your heart, with understanding, care and deep sympathy. In recent times, Gia Nghia city has carried out activities such as supporting breeding cows, providing preferential capital, building solid houses... for households in difficult circumstances.
In daily activities, grassroots cadres have gone down to villages and hamlets to encourage and motivate people to escape poverty and strive to improve their circumstances. Cadres have guided households in applying science and technology to develop production, business, and have a plan to accumulate, not to shop or spend lavishly.
Officials also encouraged people to invest in sending their children to school to learn to read and write so they can gain knowledge, have work skills in the future, and improve their income...
According to the assessment, social security policies for the poor are implemented promptly and synchronously. Poor households and those in especially difficult circumstances are linked to a humanitarian address so that benefactors are ready to help and share funding to support seedlings, livestock, necessities, etc.
The Gia Nghia City Party Committee and People's Committee clearly defined the poverty reduction target for the 2021-2025 period, which is to strive to reduce the poverty rate by 0.1% or more per year on average. In particular, the local ethnic minority population will reduce by 1.3% or more.
Currently, according to the latest review, Gia Nghia city still has 56 poor households, accounting for 0.26%. The above results have exceeded the target assigned by Dak Nong Provincial People's Committee and Gia Nghia City Party Committee and People's Council.
According to Mr. Do Tan Suong - Chairman of Gia Nghia City People's Committee, this encouraging result is thanks to the strong direction and leadership of the political system as well as the efforts of grassroots cadres, staying close to the people to help each family have a new direction and escape poverty sustainably.
