The Hoa Binh - Moc Chau expressway project has a total length of nearly 85 km with a total investment of phase 1 of more than 22,000 billion VND, connecting from the National Highway 6 intersection in Phu Tho province (former Hoa Binh) to the National Highway 43 intersection in Moc Chau, Son La province.
The project is divided into two large sections, of which the section through Son La province, more than 32 km long, started construction in May 2025, and the section in Phu Tho province started construction in September 2024.
Currently, the entire route is focusing on deploying construction on a 4-lane phase scale with the spirit of "3 shifts, 4 crews" continuously to be determined to complete and put the entire project into synchronous operation in the 2027-2028 period.
According to the Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transport Works of Son La province, the Moc Chau - Son La expressway project section passing through Son La has a construction length of about 32.3 km, with a total adjusted investment of more than 4,418 billion VND, implemented in the period 2023 - 2028.
Ms. Lo Thi Hien (Van Son ward) shared: "Being able to add expressways makes people very happy, many years of wishing to travel on big and beautiful roads to return to Hanoi faster is about to become a reality".
In the most recent progress report, site clearance work achieved many positive results. Units have handed over 31.93/32.3 km of site, equivalent to 98.85% of the route length. This is the basis for contractors to simultaneously deploy many construction fronts at the construction site.
The project includes 3 construction packages. The actual value to date is estimated at nearly 399 billion VND, equivalent to about 12% of the contract value.
The construction progress has been adjusted to suit the site handover plan and actual implementation needs.
According to construction units, construction work is currently facing many difficulties, affecting project progress such as divided terrain, limited road system serving construction, and the opening of service roads takes a lot of time.
In addition, prolonged rainy weather has caused the soil to saturate water, and the road for transporting materials is slippery, affecting the construction of the roadbed and the transportation of soil and rock.
Regarding this issue, Chairman of Son La Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Dinh Viet requested departments, branches, localities and investors to continue to closely coordinate, focusing on removing obstacles in site clearance, material sources and waste disposal yards to ensure project progress.
The Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is assigned to review and complete the dossier to adjust the scale of the route from 2 lanes to 4 lanes right in the implementation phase.
For contractors, provincial leaders requested to mobilize maximum manpower, machinery, organize scientific construction, ensure project quality, labor safety and complete schedule milestones according to plan.
Son La province is committed to continuing to accompany and promptly remove difficulties in mechanisms, land and procedures so that the project can be implemented smoothly, contributing to the early completion of the expressway connecting Hoa Binh with Moc Chau, creating motivation for socio-economic development in the Northwest region.
