The Department of Transport of Kien Giang province has just sent a report to the People's Committee of Kien Giang province on approving the policy of adding traffic functions to Tho Chau Port and announcing Tho Chau Inland Waterway Port, Phu Quoc City, Kien Giang province.
Previously, on December 10, 2024, the Department of Transport held a meeting, agreed on the content of the consultation, proposed the Provincial People's Committee to approve the policy of announcing the Inland Waterway Port in Tho Chau Port area, Phu Quoc City to serve as a basis for putting the means of transport enterprises into commercial exploitation of passenger transport on the fixed route Phu Quoc - Tho Chau and vice versa.
At the meeting, after approving the content of the directive document of the Provincial People's Committee, Submission No. 399 of Phu Quoc City People's Committee and the comments of the units participating in the meeting, they all agreed to add traffic functions and announce the Inland Waterway Port for Tho Chau Port, Phu Quoc City to facilitate approval for vehicles to operate fixed passenger transport on the Phu Quoc - Tho Chau route and vice versa.
In order to create favorable conditions for people, officers, soldiers and delegations of visitors from other provinces to Tho Chau island commune to travel and work better and better, the Department of Transport reports and proposes the Provincial People's Committee to consider and approve the assignment of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to prepare a dossier to supplement the traffic function of Tho Chau Port and carry out the procedures to announce Tho Chau Inland Waterway Port according to regulations.
The Department of Transport shall coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to guide and receive procedures and documents for announcing the operation of Tho Chau Inland Waterway Port according to regulations. The Kien Giang Maritime Port Authority shall organize the management of maritime security activities at the port, grant licenses, and supervise the operations of ships arriving and departing from the announced area according to regulations.
It is known that according to the Circular, the Phu Quoc - Tho Chau route is announced by the Ministry of Transport, vehicles are allowed to operate on the route according to the inspection level: Seagoing vessels from restricted level II and above. According to the regulations, to put water transport vehicles into operation on the route, it is necessary to determine the departure and arrival terminals, accordingly, the starting point of the route is determined at Bai Vong Port, the end point of the route is Tho Chau Fishing Port managed and exploited by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. Currently, in the Tho Chau Fishing Port area, the competent authority has not announced the addition of traffic functions for the port to receive water vehicles.
