Contributing ideas to create space and tourism products
On the morning of July 15, a scientific seminar themed "Preserving and promoting the value of Trung Phuong ancient town port associated with the development of cultural tourism in the Southeast Da Nang region" took place at the Hall of Duy Nghia Commune People's Committee. The event was organized by Duy Nghia Commune People's Committee in coordination with Lao Dong Newspaper and Da Nang City Historical Science Association.
Explaining the reason for the relocation of Trung Phuong trading port, Mr. Bui Van Tieng - Chairman of the Da Nang City Historical Science Association - analyzed: "Because the Thu Bon River flows violently in the flood season, the ports at the end of this river in the past were often quickly silted up - Trung Phuong trading port was erased from the map "Silk Road at Sea" to make way for Hoi An on the opposite side.
In order to create a separate path so as not to turn the locality into a copy of Hoi An tourism, the expert proposed: "The most important solution is to create conditions to connect Champa destination, Trung Phuong ancient town, with two other Champa destinations, which are the World Cultural Heritage My Son Temple and the National Special Relic, Dong Duong Buddhist Institute.
At the event, Dr. Luu Anh Ro - Standing Vice Chairman of the Da Nang City Historical Science Association - commented: "Trung Phuong is not only an ancient coastal village formed early, but also a space that converges historical, commercial, maritime and unique cultural values of Quang land.
Based on archaeological artifacts, Dr. Luu Anh Ro proposed: "First of all, it is necessary to study the formation of the "Trung Phuong River and Water Exhibition House" in the direction of a community cultural institution, gradually developing into the Trung Phuong River and Water Museum when conditions are met." He further noted that the exhibition content should focus on the history of Trung Phuong's sea profession through traditional fishing gear, fishing vehicles, sea transport, fish sauce making, and seafood processing.
Proposal to integrate heritage into general planning
Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa - Secretary of the Party Committee of Duy Nghia commune - affirmed: "Trung Phuong, an ancient port city that was buried by sea sand for centuries, will have the opportunity to revive in a new face, becoming a driving force for tourism, economy and culture development for the southeast of Da Nang city in the future.
To realize this goal, Duy Nghia commune's action program focuses on studying the overall heritage space, continuing to survey, digitize data and map the scale from Cua Dai, An Luong to Bau Au and neighboring Champa relics.
Regarding legality, the Secretary of the Party Committee of Duy Nghia commune emphasized the key solution: "Things that can be done immediately are to use the results of the Seminar as a scientific basis to request adjustments and supplements to the new plan (after the merger of the province), zoning plan to protect and have conditions to preserve and promote the heritage of Trung Phuong ancient port city".
Based on this planning platform, the locality orients investment promotion, calling on businesses to form a coastal heritage tourist route in the south of the city. This route will connect the chain of spaces Trung Phuong, Hoi An, Cu Lao Cham, Tra Kieu and Dong Duong. Along with that is the idea of forming a real-life museum to recreate the history of the trading port, the lives of residents, the fish sauce making profession and the memory of Bau boats.
Faced with landslides threatening community livelihoods, Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa stated clearly: "All development plans must be based on conservation. Investment in landslide prevention works, restoration of coastal ecosystems and protection of natural landscapes need to be implemented synchronously with tourism projects. This is not only a solution to protect heritage, but also a prerequisite for sustainable development.
At the same time, Mr. Hoa also affirmed that heritage only truly lives when it becomes a part of contemporary life. For Trung Phuong, preservation is not about keeping what is left, but about evoking historical memories and transforming cultural values into development resources.
In particular, this is a practical activity to concretize the policy of implementing Resolution 80-NQ/TW of the Politburo on developing Vietnamese culture of Duy Nghia commune.
