On February 18, the Departments of Transport of Thai Nguyen and Lang Son had a working session to agree on the contents related to advising on the implementation of the project connecting the two provinces, replacing the old National Highway 1B.
Accordingly, representatives of the leaders of the two Departments of Transport agreed to advise on the proposal to invest in the new Lang Son - Thai Nguyen road, about 70km long, according to the scale of the 4-lane expressway. The minimum speed of the route is designed to be 80 km/h.
The expressway is expected to have a starting point in Lang Son and an ending point in Thai Nguyen. The project connection location between the two provinces is within the administrative boundaries of Tan Thanh commune (Bac Son district) and Phuong Giao commune ( Vo Nhai district).
The investment project aims to create momentum to promote economic and social development of the two localities. Contributing to strengthening regional linkages, forming the main traffic axis connecting the Northwest and Northeast regions.
Currently, to connect Thai Nguyen and Lang Son, vehicles are allowed to travel along National Highway 1B, 145km long. The route is grade IV mountainous, 2 lanes, unlikely to be upgraded or expanded, and has a low speed.
