Can Tho voters requested the Ministry of Transport to promptly promote investment procedures for the high-speed railway project from Ho Chi Minh City to Can Tho City.
"The project will contribute to meeting the needs of socio-economic development, improving the lives of people in localities in the Mekong Delta region," voters emphasized.
Regarding the content of the voters' petition, the Ministry of Transport said that the Ministry agreed with the petition of Can Tho city voters to soon invest in the construction of a railway line connecting the Mekong Delta region with Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the railway network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho railway line, about 174 km long, passes through 6 provinces/cities, double track, 1435mm gauge, research and investment roadmap before 2030.
With an important role in connecting the center of the Southern key economic region with the center of the Mekong Delta key economic region, improving competitiveness, supporting the supply of goods to the consumer market.
Implementing the policies of the Politburo and the planning of the railway network, the Ministry of Transport is currently implementing the preparation of a Pre-Feasibility Study Report to submit to competent authorities for consideration and striving to start construction before 2030.
