On November 30, Mr. Nguyen Van Vinh - Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Construction - said that the prolonged floods in recent days have caused more than 40 points on Khanh Le Pass to be seriously eroded and sunk, causing the main traffic route between Nha Trang - Da Lat to be cut off for many days.
According to Mr. Vinh, after the unit's focus on repair, up to now, there are only 7 landslides and subsidence points. It is expected to open to traffic on December 5.
Mr. Le Thuan Doan - Director of Khanh Hoa Road Management and Construction Joint Stock Company - informed that the unit has mobilized more than 30 vehicles and 40 workers, divided into 3 construction teams, coordinating with support forces to handle landslides day and night.
In addition, on November 25, the Khanh Hoa Provincial Military Command supported blasting to destroy about 600m3 of rock at Km44+400. However, the pass is still at many dangerous points.
Khanh Le Pass is 33km long, an important route on National Highway 27C, connecting Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa) with Da Lat (Lam Dong).
This is the highest pass on the route, in the Truong Son Nam range, famous for its majestic landscape but also has many potential safety risks due to large slopes and many hand-carved bends.
During the rainy season, Khanh Le Pass often experiences landslides. Most recently, on November 16, rocks fell from the pass and hit a passenger bus, killing 6 people and injuring 19 others.
On November 24, Khanh Hoa province decided to declare a natural disaster emergency to repair damage to traffic infrastructure on Khanh Le Pass, Khanh Son Pass and many other routes affected by floods.
