On July 12, information from Lai Chau Provincial Police, at about 0:30 on the same day, Mr. Vang A Lu (born 2007) was driving a motorbike carrying his wife, Ms. Vang Thi Chang (also residing in Giang Ma Then Chai village, Ta Leng commune, Lai Chau province) moving from San Thang village, Tan Phong ward to Ta Leng commune.
When passing through the spillway in the Chin Chu Chai village area, Tan Phong ward, due to heavy rain causing the stream water to rise and flow rapidly, Mr. Lu lost control of the steering wheel, the motorbike overturned and both husband and wife and the vehicle were swept away by the water.
In the incident, Ms. Vang Thi Chang luckily swam ashore on her own and promptly found support, while Mr. Vang A Lu and his motorbike were swept away by the water and went missing.
After receiving the news, the Fire and Rescue Police Department mobilized 2 specialized vehicles and 10 officers and soldiers, coordinating with Tan Phong Ward Police, Ta Leng Commune Police and local authorities to urgently deploy search operations.
During the search, functional forces discovered a red Honda Wave motorbike, license plate 25-AA 229. 44 lying under the stream bed, right at the foot of the spillway.
Due to many days of heavy rain causing the stream water to flow strongly, the stream bed is cloudy, and visibility is limited, the rescue force mobilized excavators to create dams to block the flow, and adjust the flow to reduce water flow to serve the search work at the foot of the dam and along the stream.
At 10:54 am on the same day, the body of Mr. Vang A Lu was found about 1km from the accident site. The victim's body was then handed over to his family for funeral arrangements according to local customs.
