How to distinguish between motorbike prohibition signs and motorbike prohibition signs

Motorcycle ban signs and motorcycle ban signs are quite similar but apply to two different groups of vehicles.

How does the motorbike ban sign look?

According to the National Technical Regulation on Road Signage QCVN 41:2024/BGTVT, the motorbike no-entry sign is denoted as P.111a.

This sign is round in shape, red border, white background. Inside the sign is a black motorbike and there is a red diagonal line from top to bottom, from left to right.

Sign P.111a is used to signal roads prohibiting motorbikes from passing through. This sign is not valid for bicycles.

According to the 2024 Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety, motorbikes are vehicles with two or three motorized wheels, designed to operate on roads, with a design speed not exceeding 50 km/h.

If using a thermal engine, the working capacity or equivalent capacity of the vehicle is not greater than 50 cm3. If using an electric motor, the engine power is not greater than 4 kW. Motorbikes do not include electric bicycles.

What's different from the motorbike ban sign?

The motorbike no-entry sign is denoted as P.104. This sign indicates that the road prohibits all types of motorbikes, except for vehicles prioritized according to regulations while on duty.

An easy-to-recognize point is that the motorbike no-entry sign P.104 has a picture of a person sitting on the vehicle. Meanwhile, the motorbike no-entry sign P.111a only has a picture of the vehicle, without a driver.

In terms of meaning, the P.111a sign prohibits motorbikes, usually the group of vehicles with a capacity not exceeding 50 cm3 or electric vehicles with a capacity not exceeding 4 kW. The P.104 sign prohibits motorbikes, meaning the group of motorbikes not belonging to motorbikes.

Traffic participants need to distinguish between these two types of signs to avoid going into prohibited roads, especially on roads with separate traffic organizations for each type of vehicle.

This act belongs to the group that is deducted 2 points from the driver's license.
