On August 9, the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health informed that since the beginning of the year, the whole province has recorded 6 deaths from rabies. Most of the deaths were not vaccinated after being bitten by dogs or cats.
In addition, the whole province has recorded more than 900 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease and nearly 2,500 cases of dengue fever.
Mr. Huynh Le Xuan Bich - Deputy Director of the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health - said: "Infectious diseases in the area are on the rise, the most worrying are rabies, dengue fever and hand, foot and mouth disease. These diseases all increased compared to the same period in 2024".
According to Mr. Bich, the reason for the increase in infectious diseases is due to unusual weather, creating favorable conditions for disease-causing mosquitoes to grow and develop.
In addition, the increase in population movement and exchange, especially during the summer, causes pathogens to spread and become difficult to control.
"People are still limited in their awareness of disease prevention and control, do not properly implement environmental sanitation measures, kill mosquito larvae, ticks... When bitten by dogs or cats, many people do not proactively get vaccinated, causing the disease to worsen, endangering their lives," Mr. Bich added.
Faced with the complicated developments of infectious diseases, the provincial health sector has proactively and synchronously deployed many measures to prevent and control epidemics. In particular, focusing on monitoring and early detection of cases, through the establishment of a strict monitoring system from the provincial level to the commune and ward. At the same time, proactively and thoroughly handle the outbreak within 24 to 48 hours.
One of the solutions that the authorities are implementing is to promote communication work through direct and indirect forms. Especially in the field of multimedia, flexible, and nearly popular communication, especially in remote ethnic minority areas.
