Dien Bien prepares construction materials for a series of infrastructure upgrade projects

Dien Bien - In the 2026-2030 period, the locality will implement a series of key projects, so the supply of construction materials will also increase.

Statistics from the Department of Construction show that in the period 2026 - 2030, the whole province has nearly 60 large projects that need to use large volumes of construction stone, sand and soil for filling and leveling.

In which, the demand mainly focuses on transportation projects such as the Son La - Dien Bien - Tay Trang Border Gate expressway (phase 1) and the project to upgrade National Highway 12 to A Pa Chai Border Gate.

These two projects alone are expected to require about 3.2 million cubic meters of construction rock, nearly 600,000 cubic meters of sand and about 8.6 million cubic meters of embankment and leveling soil.

In addition, many large-scale urban and tourism projects are also being prepared for investment, continuing to increase the demand for building materials in the coming years.

To be proactive in supply, the Departments of Construction, Agriculture and Environment, and Industry and Trade have coordinated to review the current status of mineral mines for ordinary construction materials in the area.

Accordingly, Dien Bien province currently has 33 mining sites licensed for exploitation and 11 mining sites that have completed the auction of exploitation rights and are completing licensing procedures.

PV's records show that specialized sectors of Dien Bien province are completing plans and proposing to add 15 new mine points to the provincial planning adjustment, including 9 stone mines, 3 sand mines and 3 filling soil mines.

At the same time, 13 existing mine sites are also proposed to expand the exploitation area to improve the ability to supply materials to serve key projects.

According to calculations by specialized agencies, the total supply capacity of ordinary construction materials of mines in the area in the period 2026 - 2030 reaches more than 139 million cubic meters, basically meeting the needs of projects.

However, in addition to reserves, reasonable supply arrangements between regions are also set out to reduce transportation costs, shorten supply time and limit impacts on transport infrastructure.

To continue increasing supply, the Department of Agriculture and Environment has developed a plan to auction 6 more mineral mines for ordinary construction materials.

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Dien Bien province, among these are 3 rock mines with a total reserve of about 7 million cubic meters, 2 sand mines of about 160,000 cubic meters and 1 filling soil mine of about 1 million cubic meters.

After completing the auction and licensing of exploitation, the mines will significantly supplement material sources to serve key projects in the area.

In parallel with that, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is building a special mechanism for allocating material mines for a number of large projects such as the Son La - Dien Bien - Tay Trang border gate expressway and the project to upgrade National Highway 12 to A Pa Chai border gate.

The mine sites will be surveyed and selected to suit the needs of each project, both ensuring construction progress, using mineral resources effectively and reducing environmental impacts.

Proactively preparing materials from the beginning is expected to contribute to removing one of the major bottlenecks of investment projects, creating conditions for key projects to be implemented on schedule, promoting infrastructure and socio-economic development of the province in the coming period.
