On November 4, at wharf No. 2, Chan May port, Thua Thien Hue Maritime Port Authority organized a joint maritime search and rescue exercise in the waters of Thua Thien Hue seaport in 2024.
According to the scenario, at Chan May port anchorage, there was a collision between a transport ship and a fishing boat of Thua Thien Hue province, causing the fishing boat to puncture the engine compartment, posing a risk of fire, explosion, oil spill, water entering the engine compartment, and the risk of sinking the ship; the transport ship was dented at the bow.
After receiving the information, the representative of Thua Thien Hue Maritime Port Authority at Chan May requested the transport ship to urgently coordinate in rescuing the crew members of the fishing vessel who fell into the water.
During the coordinated search and rescue of the person who fell into the water, the mining vessel caught fire in the warehouse area behind the wheel. Upon receiving the fire alarm, the on-site commander mobilized a vessel from the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center Region 1 to promptly approach to assist in firefighting.
The authorities were quickly deployed to the scene to rescue the crew members in the water and assist in extinguishing the ship fire. At the same time, the on-site commander evacuated all crew members. During the rescue operation, signs of oil spilling into Chan May Bay were detected, so the port authority on duty was notified to mobilize specialized vehicles and equipment to collect the spilled oil.
With close coordination between functional forces, the rescue of all those who fell into the water was quickly completed, first aid was given and all crew members were brought safely to shore; at the same time, the fire was extinguished and all the oil spilled into the sea was collected.
