Investigation into suspected food poisoning in Nghe An

Nghe An - The Food Safety Department has requested to clearly identify the cause of the suspected food poisoning that has hospitalized many people.

As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, after lunch on December 6, 84 workers (from WHA Industrial Park and VSIP Nghe An Industrial Park) showed symptoms of dizziness, headache, nausea... and were taken to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Food Safety Department requested the Nghe An Provincial Department of Health to urgently direct medical facilities where patients are being treated to focus resources on actively treating patients, not to affect the health and lives of patients, and in case of necessity, to request support for professional consultation with higher-level hospitals.

At the same time, organize an investigation, clearly identify the cause of the suspected poisoning according to regulations, trace the origin of the suspected food poisoning, take food samples and specimens for testing to find the cause and temporarily suspend the operation of the unit providing the meal suspected of causing the poisoning.

In addition, detect and strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicize the results to promptly warn the community.

The Food Safety Department also requested the Nghe An Department of Health to increase propaganda and guidance for collective kitchens and food service establishments to ensure hygiene and food safety conditions, strictly implement the management of food ingredients' origin, three-step food inspection, food sample storage and hygiene in processing stages.

Disseminate and educate people about food safety knowledge and measures to prevent food poisoning, to raise awareness, change behaviors and habits that do not ensure food safety in choosing and using food, and not use food of unknown origin, label, or source.

At the same time, strictly implement the contents of Official Dispatch No. 2487/BYT-ATTP dated May 11, 2024, Official Dispatch No. 3113/BYT-ATTP dated June 7, 2024 and Official Dispatch No. 6495/BYT-ATTP dated October 22, 2024 of the Ministry of Health on the implementation of Directive No. 38/CT-TTg dated October 11, 2024 of the Prime Minister on strengthening food poisoning prevention.

Regarding the incident, the authorities have decided to temporarily suspend the operations of the catering provider, BAC Trading Joint Stock Company (business location No. 340 Dang Thai Mai, Hung Dong Commune, Vinh City).
