This forecast was reported by Mr. Khuong Le Binh - Director of the Hydrometeorological Station of Dong Thap province - at the working session of the Steering Committee for Climate Change Response - Search and Rescue of Dong Thap province chaired by Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Pham Thien Nghia on the afternoon of September 30.
Based on specialized calculations, the Dong Thap Province Hydrometeorological Station forecasts that the flood peak in the upstream area will be about 0.4m higher than in 2023. In the Thap Muoi inland area, it will be about 0.3m higher than in 2023. In particular, the southern area of Dong Thap province will be about 0.1m higher than in 2023.
According to this forecast, in the upstream area of the Mekong River, especially on the Tien River, the water level will continue to rise gradually and reach the peak tide on the 1st of September of the lunar calendar (the highest water level at Hong Ngu is 3.35m), then change slowly in the middle of the month, then continue to rise and reach the peak of the year around October 18-20.
The flood peak in the upstream area of the province is at level I alarm level, the highest water level of the year in Hong Ngu is 3.50m. Similarly, in the inner area of Thap Muoi, the water level gradually rises and reaches the peak of the year around October 19-22; at level II - level III alarm level.
The highest water level of the year in Truong Xuan is 2.30. In the southern area of Dong Thap province, the water level reached the peak tide on the 1st of the 9th lunar month at level II - level III alarm (water level in Cao Lanh was at 2.25 m, 10cm lower than the peak tide on September 22), then slowly decreased until October 12, then rose rapidly and reached the highest tide of the year on October 18 - 20; at a level higher than level III alarm by about 0.1 to 0.2 m, the highest water level of the year in Cao Lanh was at 2.45 m to 2.55 m.
Faced with the above developments, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Pham Thien Nghia requested agencies, units and localities to proactively prepare response plans, especially during the peak flood season. In particular, focusing on reinforcing weak dykes. At the same time, Mr. Nghia also directed districts and cities to prepare the "4 on-site" plan in natural disaster prevention and control.
Mr. Nghia also directed the armed forces in the area to be ready in terms of manpower and means to promptly support the people when requested.
