Transportation businesses propose solutions to reduce traffic accidents

Many businesses and transport business associations have proposed to the Traffic Police Department solutions to ensure traffic order and safety, and reduce accidents.

On August 1, Major General Do Thanh Binh - Director of the Traffic Police Department (CSGT, Ministry of Public Security) - chaired a conference to discuss with road transport businesses on ensuring traffic order and safety.

According to the Director of the Traffic Police Department, recently, traffic accidents (TNGT) related to commercial vehicles have become complicated. Statistics show that the number of trucks and passenger cars only accounts for 2.49% of the total number of vehicles on the road, but the two types of vehicles are related to 37.1% of cases and 40.27% of deaths due to traffic accidents.

"For every three accidents, there is one incident involving a truck, a trailer, a semi-trailer or a passenger car," Mr. Binh informed.

In the first 7 months of 2025, there were 4,000 traffic accidents involving trucks and passenger cars nationwide, killing 2,466 people and 2,106 victims. Most recently, in Ha Tinh, a tragic passenger bus accident occurred, killing 10 people.

"With the above figures, we need to look at the state management, the responsibility of ministries and branches and look at the current regulations on infrastructure, vehicles and drivers to see what problems there are" - the leader of the Traffic Police Department emphasized.

The issues raised by the units include: How businesses manage drivers to hand over vehicles to drivers for safe traffic; issue vehicle badges for strict management; the issue of installing journey monitoring devices and driver recording devices...

Also through the conference, the Traffic Police Department proposed to work with businesses to manage means of transport using a digitized data system. Because, if managed using technology, there will be smoothness between state management agencies and units that own vehicles and drivers.

At the conference, Mr. Nguyen Cong Hung - Director of Mai Linh Hanoi - expressed the view that in the past, many traffic accidents have occurred, but only the relevant parties have returned to take responsibility, that is, only resolve the consequences without preventing them from the beginning.

With the passenger bus type, not only businesses but also individuals with only 2-3 passenger buses are currently allowed to do business. According to him, to make businesses comply with traffic laws well, they must build good laws. In particular, it is necessary to resolve violations related to vehicle badges and lottery.

"It is best to digitize data and electronic identification of vehicle badges for easy management such as managing license plate identification, it is necessary to prohibit vehicles without badges or badges that have expired from running on the road" - Mr. Hung proposed.

Meanwhile, a representative of Hai Van car company acknowledged that there are currently many spontaneous cars such as self- assembled cars, "illegal" cars, and cars without fixed route contracts that still welcome customers.

According to the representative of this car company, it is necessary to increase the fine, even temporarily detain the car to prevent this type of vehicle from violating. The Traffic Police Department can digitize passenger vehicles to manage vehicles in the electronic environment. Through the surveillance camera system on national highways and expressways to detect and handle violating vehicles.

In particular, it is necessary to manage sleeper buses more closely, for example, granting certificates to drivers of this type of vehicle, stipulating what conditions are allowed to travel on winding mountain roads, when are allowed to participate in long-distance traffic...

A representative of the Vietnam Automobile Transport Association said that the cause of traffic accidents involving transport vehicles in recent times is due to many factors, including the arrangement of inappropriate road traffic signs. For example, some routes have signs on the right, just a few container trucks passing through will have their signs obscured, and other drivers will not be able to see them. So, it is advisable to place signs on the price of dragon fruit so that all drivers can observe.

"It is necessary to tighten the management of vehicles with white license plates but still secretly carrying passengers or goods. This is a type of vehicle that affects legitimate transport business units" - the association stated.
