On August 6, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development issued an urgent dispatch requesting the closure of two major hydropower plants in the northern region.
Accordingly, at 10:00 am on the same day, the water level at the upper reaches of Sơn La Lake was at 201.54m, with an inflow of 4,751m3/s and an outflow of 8,084m3/s; the water level at the upper reaches of Tuyên Quang Lake was at 108.08m, with an inflow of 1,309m3/s and an outflow of 2,305m3/s;
Implementing the procedure for operating interconnected reservoirs on the Hồng River basin, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development ordered the Director of Sơn La Hydropower Company to close one bottom outlet of Sơn La Hydropower Plant at 15:00 on August 6; simultaneously, ordered the Director of Tuyên Quang Hydropower Company to close one bottom outlet of Tuyên Quang Hydropower Plant at 15:00 on the same day.
The Ministry also requested the provinces of Sơn La, Hòa Bình, Tuyên Quang, Phú Thọ, Vĩnh Phúc, and Hà Nội to inform the local authorities, people, and organizations operating on or near the river of the information to take proactive measures to ensure safety and adjust their activities accordingly; not to allow people to approach areas with a risk of landslides, construction sites, to avoid any unfortunate losses.
Report any unusual situations to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development via the Directorate of Water Resources Management and Disaster Prevention and Control.
