Dong Hoi completes the task of building new rural areas

Quang Binh - Dong Hoi City has been officially recognized for completing the task of building new rural areas, marking a comprehensive and sustainable development journey.

On the afternoon of May 30, in Dong Hoi City (Quang Binh), the City People's Committee held a ceremony to announce the Prime Minister's decision to recognize Dong Hoi as completing the task of building new rural areas (NTM) in 2024.

After more than a decade of implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development, Dong Hoi city has mobilized the consensus and strong participation of the entire political system and people, achieving many comprehensive achievements.

From the starting point in 2011 to only 64% of the criteria, by 2024, all 6/6 communes in the area have met the NTM standards; of which, 2 communes have met the model and advanced NTM standards, 10 residential areas have been recognized as model, 22 products have met the OCOP standards.

The total budget for implementing the program reached more than 804 billion VND, of which the commune budget accounted for more than 74%. The multidimensional poverty rate in rural areas decreased to 0.28%; the average income per capita in this area has been continuously increased. Infrastructure for transportation, healthcare, education, culture... are invested synchronously; 100% of communes meet national standards on healthcare, the rate of trained workers reaches 79%.

As the economic and political center of the province, Dong Hoi has effectively taken advantage of the potential of geographical location, resources and infrastructure to develop trade, tourism and industry.

Total retail sales of goods and services in 2024 will reach more than VND 24,500 billion. The NTM program also contributes to shaping the appearance of new rural areas: green, clean, civilized and livable.

The results achieved are not only results but also a stepping stone for the city to continue building an advanced, model new rural area in the coming time. The city will focus on improving the quality of criteria, developing a diverse and modern rural economy, and taking the satisfaction of the people as a measure.
