On the morning of May 5, reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper recorded that on many fields in Ha Tinh, people are urgently harvesting rice. In which, for fields that have been knocked down and flooded, they have to harvest manually with sickles.
From early morning, Mrs. Bien Thi An (55 years old, residing in Yen Khanh village, Cam Binh commune) and her husband hired 7 workers to manually harvest on the field that was knocked down by thunderstorms that occurred a few days earlier.
Ms. An said that this Winter-Spring crop, her family cultivated 10 sao of rice fields (1 sao = 500 m2), when the rice was in harvest season, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms on May 3rd caused 5 sao to fall.
This morning my family hired 7 people to help harvest. The salary for each person is 250,000 VND/day," Ms. An shared.

According to Ms. An, this Winter-Spring crop, rice yield is quite high. However, investment costs have all increased, from fertilizer money, seed money and harvester money have also increased due to rising oil prices, while rice prices are low, so rice cultivation does not yield much profit, mainly taking labor as profit.
On many other fields, many households are also harvesting manually, in some places the fields are high, drainage is good after rain, and harvesters have also urgently gone to the fields to harvest for farmers.

In Xuan Loc commune, on the morning of May 5, the commune police mobilized forces to go to the villages to support people in harvesting rice that was knocked down by thunderstorms in low-lying, flooded areas to reduce damage.

In Dong Kinh commune, local authorities have mobilized armed forces and mass organizations to help lonely and elderly households harvest rice that was knocked down by thunderstorms.

According to a report from the Ha Tinh Sub-Department of Crop Production and Livestock Production, from the afternoon to the evening of May 3, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in many localities in Ha Tinh caused more than 5,800 hectares of rice to fall.

After the natural disaster, specialized sectors and local authorities recommend that people urgently harvest the fallen ripe rice fields. In case the rice is still green, it is necessary to urgently drain water and raise the rice in patches to minimize damage.
Currently, many localities have mobilized armed forces and mass organizations to help lonely households with fallen and flooded rice to harvest manually to prevent rice from sprouting and damaged.
