On May 4, information from the People's Committee of Thien Nhan commune said that the thunderstorm accompanied by hailstorms that occurred in the late afternoon of May 3 caused serious damage to agricultural production in the area.
According to preliminary statistics, more than 1,500 hectares of spring rice that was in the ripening stage, preparing for harvest, were knocked down by strong winds. In addition, more than 60 hectares of corn and vegetables were also crushed by ice rain, many areas were almost completely lost, directly affecting the yield and income of people.

Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities mobilized forces to go to the fields to inspect and direct the implementation of remedial measures. Commune leaders directly inspected the fields, requesting agricultural service cooperatives to coordinate with people to urgently drain water and save rice.
The drainage system is operated at maximum capacity, including opening culverts at Dap Dang Pumping Station, organizing water hyacinth digging, clearing the flow at Bau Sang spillway, and discharging water at Tho Toan spillway and drainage canals in the area.
Local authorities have identified the priority goal as quickly draining water, creating conditions for farmers to harvest early the fallen rice areas, minimizing damage caused by natural disasters.
