To Lich River is more than 14km long, originating from Nghia Do Ward, flowing into Nhue River - Dai Thanh Commune.
According to the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, on average, the To Lich River receives about 160,000m3 of domestic wastewater per day. Most of this wastewater has not been treated or has not been treated to standards and has been discharged directly into the river.
After many years of serious pollution, Hanoi is currently simultaneously implementing technical - infrastructure - environmental - landscape solutions, with the goal of returning the green flow to the To Lich River.
A recent report from the Hanoi Department of Construction said that the Department of Construction has completed phase I of dredging river mud, from Hoang Quoc Viet Street to Khuong Dinh Bridge, with a route length of about 7km and a volume of about 49,914m3.
It is expected that in August 2025, phase 2 (from Khuong Dinh bridge to Long Quang pagoda) will be completed with a length of 5km, volume of about 11,800 m3.
Regarding the improvement of environmental sanitation and trees on both sides of the river, the Department of Construction has directed the Hanoi City Infrastructure Management Center and contractors to maintain ornamental plants, perch trees, and grass on Lang Road and along the To Lich River bank regularly and continuously, ensuring the prescribed frequency.
At a meeting reporting on the situation of renovation, improvement and environmental sanitation on both sides of To Lich River on July 7, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Trong Dong and Vice Chairman of Hanoi People's Committee Duong Duc Tuan requested that from now until August 30, wards along both sides of To Lich River must complete all renovations and improvements on both sides of the river such as: paving sidewalks, building railings, planting trees, and lawns.
At the same time, localities have stepped up propaganda for people to maintain hygiene and leave garbage in the right place. The Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment has soon deployed the placement of trash bins along both sides of the river, contributing to maintaining environmental hygiene in the area.
