The My Thuy intersection project started construction in 2016 with a total investment of VND1,998 billion (adjusted to increase to more than VND3,600 billion in 2022), with a scale of three floors.
Previously, phase one of the project had completed major items such as underpasses, overpasses, My Thuy 3 bridge, Ky Ha 3 bridge... However, due to difficulties in site clearance, the project had to be temporarily suspended.
In early April this year, the project was restarted with the construction of Ky Ha 4 Bridge. After that, the branches at the intersection also began to be deployed.
However, according to the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Traffic Works in Ho Chi Minh City (investor), construction progress is still very slow.
The construction package of Ky Ha 4 bridge and the right turn from Phu My bridge has only reached about 10%.
The construction packages for the road branches on the left and right banks of My Thuy canal have reached 15% and 50% respectively but are also temporarily suspended due to land acquisition problems.
This situation has resulted in the project only disbursing more than VND 1.8 billion, equivalent to 0.2% of the total capital of more than VND 907 billion allocated this year.
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, the site clearance work is the responsibility of the Thu Duc City People's Committee, and has been implemented since 2016. As of February 2024, Thu Duc City has only handed over 1/195 cases, while the total compensation amount is about 1,217 billion VND.
This makes the construction work difficult, especially because My Thuy intersection is a complex traffic area. In order to be able to construct and safely divert traffic, adequate clearance is needed.
The Traffic Department has requested the Thu Duc City People's Committee to complete site clearance and handover before June 30, 2024. However, up to now, the site has not been fully handed over.
To avoid further delays in the project, the Traffic Committee continues to request the Thu Duc City People's Committee to support the mobilization of people and hand over the entire site before September 30, 2024.
Previously, My Thuy intersection was an important intersection between the road leading to Cat Lai port (Nguyen Thi Dinh street) and Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2.
The volume of freight vehicles passing through this area is always very large, while traffic here is organized at the same level, leading to congestion and frequent accidents. Currently, this intersection is one of the 9 black spots for traffic accidents in Ho Chi Minh City.
The My Thuy intersection project is targeted by Ho Chi Minh City to be completed by April 30, 2025 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day.
The project's on-schedule completion will help reduce traffic congestion and accidents at the gateway to Cat Lai port - the port with the largest cargo volume in the country.
