The two above intersections have just been included by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee in the list of typical city-level projects competing to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).
As one of the areas with the most complicated traffic situation in Ho Chi Minh City, the An Phu intersection at the eastern gateway is being implemented by the city with a total investment of more than 3,400 billion VND.
This intersection is built on three levels, including a two-way underpass connecting the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway with Mai Chi Tho Street (the side of the tunnel crossing the Saigon River), then continuing to extend through the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection.
Above, the intersection will have two overpasses for vehicles to turn in different directions; on the ground, there will be a central circular island with a symbolic tower.
At the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection, in addition to the underpass extending through here, two overpasses were also built to connect these routes together.
The existing Giong Ong To Bridge on Dong Van Cong route will have 2 more branches built and the Ba Dat Bridge on the highway approach road will have 3 more branches built to increase the area.
Mr. Luong Minh Phuc - Director of the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) - said that after about 20 months of construction, the An Phu intersection project has reached about 60% of the total volume.
Currently, the 823m long Ba Dat bridge has completed construction at the end of August. The 436m long Giong Ong To 2 bridge is expected to be completed on September 30 and the underpass at the Mai Chi Tho - Dong Van Cong intersection is expected to be completed on December 31, 2024.
The entire An Phu intersection project is expected to be completed by April 30, 2025, in addition to reducing congestion in the area, it will also increase traffic capacity to the ports connecting the Southeast region and Long Thanh airport.
Another project expected to "rescue" traffic jams in the East is the My Thuy intersection , with an investment of more than 3,600 billion VND.
The project started in 2016 and has completed items such as: Ky Ha 3 Bridge - left branch 75m long (4 lanes); left turn underpass from Ring Road 2 to Cat Lai port 505m long (2 lanes), overpass on Ring Road 2 (4 lanes), My Thuy 3 Bridge (6 lanes)...
However, due to difficulties in site clearance, the project was later suspended. In April this year, the My Thuy intersection project was restarted with the construction of Ky Ha 4 Bridge.
In addition to the above items, the remaining items will continue to be constructed in the near future, such as: Construction of the overpass branch across the intersection in the direction of Ring Road 2 - right branch (4 car lanes); construction of Ky Ha 3 bridge - right branch; and construction of an overpass for vehicles turning left from Cat Lai to Phu My bridge, meeting 2 lanes.
The entire My Thuy interchange project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025, helping to reduce traffic jams and accidents at the gateway to Cat Lai port - the country's leading port in terms of cargo throughput.
