Forecast of heavy rain concentrated in Ho Chi Minh City and the South

HẠ MÂY |

According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, widespread thunderstorms continue to occur in the afternoon and evening in Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring provinces.

On the afternoon of October 9, thunderstorms developed and caused rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in Binh Chanh, Thu Duc City, and Cu Chi District. In addition, thunderstorms in Dong Nai and Vung Tau are also moving toward Ho Chi Minh City.

In the next 0 - 3 hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop, causing showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the above districts, then expanding to other neighboring areas such as Nha Be, Can Gio, Binh Thanh, Phu Nhuan, Go Vap, Districts 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11...

Rainfall is generally from 5-15mm, some places over 20mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, hail, strong gusts of wind around level 5-7 (8-17m/s), heavy rain causing localized flooding.

The thunderstorms are caused by a stable continental cold high pressure after weakening. The equatorial low pressure trough with an axis at about 7-10 degrees North latitude combined with high-altitude easterly wind disturbances affects the weather in the Southern region.

Weather forecast for the next 24-48 hours, the continental cold high pressure will gradually weaken. The equatorial low pressure trough with an axis of about 6-10 degrees North latitude will remain. Above, the subtropical high pressure will pass through the North, then lower its axis to the South through the North Central region. The easterly wind disturbance above will affect the South. In the sea areas of the South, the wind will be light.

From 72 hours to the 10th day, the continental cold high pressure gradually weakened, and around October 12-13 and October 17-18, it was strengthened and shifted east again. The equatorial low pressure trough had stable intensity, and around October 12-13, it gradually shifted south and weakened.

Above, the subtropical high pressure has an axis through the North Central region, high-altitude wind disturbances remain over the Southern region. Over the Southern sea areas, the East to Northeast winds are weak.

Therefore, thunderstorms will increase in the Southern region, with thunderstorms concentrated in the afternoon and evening. Warning of the risk of localized heavy rain (over 70mm/6 hours). During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind. Beware of the possibility of heavy rain causing localized flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage capacity.
