After graduating from Hanoi Tourism College, like many other young people, Mr. Vu Dinh Gio, Km3 village, Bac Ha commune, Lao Cai province hopes to find a stable job. However, the salary paid to new graduates was too low, not enough to cover his living expenses, so he decided to quit his job and learn Korean to go abroad to work.
With support from policies to send workers from poor districts to work abroad, Mr. Gio has worked in Korea with a starting salary of 1,000 USD/month. His main job is to plant and harvest fruit trees in moderation. In his free time, Gio takes a bus to the villages to see and learn how to cook by local people. Seeing Korean farmers producing specialized agriculture, cultivating according to organic standards, then thinking about the fertile land of their homeland, he cherished the knowledge he had learned abroad to start a business in his homeland.
Returning to his hometown, from 0.7 hectares of his family's land combined with nearly 1 billion VND accumulated during 4 years of working in Korea, Mr. Gio rented an additional 3 hectares to grow strawberries and moderate vegetables, creating regular jobs for 5 local workers. On average, each year, after deducting expenses, he earns nearly 200 million VND.
All in the mountainous areas of Lao Cai, Ms. Vu Thi Sen's family in residential group 9A of Bao Yen commune has just built a new, spacious and solid house thanks to a large contribution from her son Dang Trong Nam. Through sharing, after graduating from high school, Nam's parents researched and decided to complete the procedures to send him to work abroad in Japan.
The leader of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee said that workers working abroad, especially the young force, are trusted and highly appreciated by employers. The rate of poor and near-poor households has decreased sharply after workers returning from working abroad. Recently, the province organized a day of job consultation, introduction and labor export to create conditions for workers to seek job opportunities, improve skills, and develop their careers.
According to the plan, each year Lao Cai province strives to send about 2,000 workers to work abroad under contracts, mainly in the markets of Japan, Taiwan (China), South Korea, and Singapore.
In addition to receiving loans from the Lao Cai Provincial Branch of the Social Policy Bank, workers in poor districts also enjoy many priority regimes such as maximum foreign language training support of 4 million VND/person/class; support for food and living expenses during the training period (50,000 VND/person/day); support for accommodation during the training period (400,000 VND/person/month); support for personal items (uniforms, blankets, scarves, shoes...) at 600,000 VND/person.
