The heat wave affecting some northern mountainous localities is forecast to soon end as weak cold air strengthens down to the North, compressing the low pressure trough and triggering widespread thunderstorms.
In Son La, according to the Hydrometeorological Station, on April 15, this area will still be hot, with intense heat in some places, the highest temperature is commonly 35-37 degrees Celsius, and in some places above 37 degrees Celsius.
However, the meteorological agency predicts that the heat will gradually decrease on April 16 and end from April 17.
From the night of April 16th to April 24th, the area will have scattered showers and thunderstorms in the periods from the night of April 16th to 20th and April 23rd to 24th; some places may experience moderate to heavy rain.
Especially on April 21-22, the weather is generally less rainy, sunny during the day, and locally there is still a possibility of hot sun.
In Lao Cai, the localized heat wave in the lowlands is also forecast to end from the night of April 16 when a cold air mass from the North spills down.
From the evening and night of April 16 to April 17, areas in the province will have showers, locally moderate rain, heavy rain and scattered thunderstorms, common rainfall of 20-40 mm, in some places over 60 mm.
Notably, around the evening and night of April 17, the high-altitude wind convergence zone formed in the Lao Cai area will make the weather worse on a large scale.
This rain wave is likely to last 3-4 days, including days with moderate rain, locally heavy rain with strong thunderstorms.
After the cold air impact, the temperature gradually decreases, the weather turns mildly cool; in highlands and high mountains, it will be lightly cold to cold at night and in the morning.
At the same time, in Cao Bang, from the night of April 16 to April 17, due to the influence of weak cold air compressing a low pressure trough, combined with wind convergence above level 1,500 m, localities in the province have rain, moderate rain and scattered thunderstorms.
Common rainfall is from 20-40 mm, locally over 70 mm. From April 17, the weather in the locality will turn cool, ending the previous hot weather.
According to the meteorological agency's assessment, even if the hot weather ends, people in localities still need to be wary of extreme weather accompanied by thunderstorms such as tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
Localized heavy rains can cause flooding in low-lying areas, and at the same time increase the risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams and landslides in hilly areas, especially in areas where the geology is loose or is leveling slopes.
Warning level of natural disaster risk due to tornadoes, lightning, and hail in localities at level 1.
